Kleine-Levin Syndrome, or KLS, is a rare sleep disorder characterized by episodes of near-constant sleep (from 23 hours a
day to weeks or years) and altered behavior. Many of the symptoms are also typical among other sleep disorders (i.e.,
irritability, lethargy, etc.), but onset is different due to the unique nature of KLS. The disorder first presents in
adolescence and affects mostly boys. Symptoms are temporary, lasting from days to weeks, and these people are otherwise
normal between attacks. The cause is unknown. |
